Good Riddance, Halloween 2012!

blowing-up-zombiesObviously, I am not a staunch follower of the Halloween tradition. Moreover, I am so glad that it’s all over. Blame it on my hometown’s disregard for the said holiday — although the nearby City of Baguio had a “zombie walk” event. Blame it on people’s distractions to other “more important things”, such as praying for their departed, traveling home, and planning family reunions, among others. We are not into the Halloween spirit and that’s that!

We just don’t appreciate the seemingly negative atmosphere brought about by celebrating Halloween? Celebrating the dead? Celebrating souls, spirits, zombies, and all that? Scaring people out of their wits? Everything is all about the dead (or the undead, for that matter), lost souls, haunted houses, and vengeful spirits ready to possess!!

Why not celebrate life instead?

Ever noticed that every time October 31 approaches, stories about ghosts and haunted houses permeate the atmosphere? Why at this time? Do these lost spirits really come out at this time of the year? And how about people who dress up for Halloween? Don’t get me wrong — I enjoy costume parties. But why now? If they love costume parties so much, why don’t they have them every week if they want to?

The movies also dig in. They release horror movies. If you open the paper to the movie listings, all you’ll see are ads in mostly black ink with empty and creepy eyes, and people in the act of screaming. Heck, even the Internet overflows with creepiness. Just recently, I heard on the news that some hackers broke into some International websites and posted images of — guess what? You got it! Scary, creepy, possessed people.

I more inclined to think that Halloween is like April Fool’s Day, only, the pranks are more on the celestial plane. And of course, deaths are likely to occur in such cases. I guess I’m going overboard. Must be too much of that damn Halloween spirit.

Again, thank goodness it’s over!

By the way: The photo attached to this post is a screen capture from Brawl Busters Philippines. It’s one of the games that I’m enjoying as of the moment. That’s my avatar blowing up zombies. It figures.
