One of the things I love about browsing the web is that I occasionally come across different modes of media that depict things that are truly inspirational.
Like this video. It features a montage of Nick Vujicic giving an inspirational talk to a group of teens, his early life, school life, and brief descriptions of growing up.
Nick Vujicic is a preacher and an international motivational speaker. He is also the Director of a non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs, whose mission “is to cross boundaries and break down barriers, to build bridges that bring people to the love and hope found in Jesus Christ.“
Yes, Mr. Vujicic is without limbs—he has nothing up to the shoulder level and has no legs, although he has two small feet, one of which has two toes.
Nick was born in Melbourne, Australia unto a Serbian family. His physical condition is the result of Tetra-amelia syndrome, also known as Autosomal recessive tetraamelia. Basically, there is a mutation in a gene (the WNT3 gene) that causes the absence of all four limbs. Malformations in other parts of the body are also evident, like on the face/skull, reproductive organs, anus, and pelvis. In Nick’s case, Tetra-amelia syndrome affected only his four limbs; overall, he is healthy.
You are Not the Only One Going Through Life’s Difficulties
Nick is admirable for his attitude. For some time, he wallowed in depression but soon, he realized that he is not the only one with his condition. Taking a cue from the fact that he is not alone, he learned to accept his condition and found a way to put it to good use: Being an inspiration to others and bringing them closer to GOD.
It’s ironic when people who are “seemingly compete” are the ones who feel “incomplete,” depressed, and are down in the dumps. On the other hand, it’s amazing when someone who seems weak and is bowed down by extreme pressures is able to soar above the challenges of life. It should serve as a reminder that we—those who are “complete” and more blessed than others—can, more than ever, carry and overcome our burdens. Nick, who was born limbless, can do it; we too, can!
Life over limitations:
The triumph of the human spirit.
Go on, watch the video. It’s a real tear-jerker! I cried my heart out.
